The Mudd Room Studio is a place to paint (and make!) your-own-pottery. Walk-in to relax, experiment, and express yourself as you create a unique ceramic masterpiece! Choose from our pre-made, always changing selection of decorative and functional pottery pieces to paint or try your hand at creating your own ceramic piece from clay. We have over 80 low-fire colors and specialty glazes to choose from, including our own custom color “Mudd Room Mud”, many tools such as stencils, stamps, sponges, writer bottles, carbon paper, internet with printer, design books, and interesting texture tools along with countless finished examples for you to be inspired by or imitate. We offer glaze and clay working classes for novices, kids, serious artists, and specific projects. Our staff is friendly and eager to share tips to make your painting experience pleasant and satisfying. Come back in a few days to pick up your glazed and fired masterpiece.

So feel free to come to The Mudd Room with friends, the kiddos, that special someone, or for some quality time by yourself. You will be inspired by your own creativity!

STUDIO RATES:

Painting Studio fee (for the glaze and firing of your painted pottery):
Adult studio fee $7 plus the cost of bisque, child studio fee $5 plus the cost of bisque
Painted pottery is left in studio, clear glazed, fired, and available to be picked up in approximately 4-7 days (7-10 days around holidays). Note: “bisque” is once-fired pottery that is ready to be painted.

Bisque Prices: Items listed are representative of our inventory but not comprehensive. Our inventory changes constantly. We have poured pieces, hand thrown pieces, and we purchase bisque from local ceramicists and several different companies. We stock seasonal and holiday items and can order or make just about anything you would like to paint. Call ahead if you have something specific in mind to make sure we have it in stock.

***All dinnerware is fully functional, it is microwave, oven, stove, and dishwasher safe. You can microwave your travel coffee mug, bake in your casserole dish, use your teapot right on the stove, then gently place them in the dishwasher just like the rest of your dishes!

$5 and under: 4" x 4" tile, small bud vases and condiment bowls, eggs, flat Christmas ornaments, hanging cookie cutter shapes and frames (similar to hot head frames), napkin holders, knobs, many add-ons (small flat shapes that can be turned into magnet or fused onto flat surfaces), necklace penants, small statues and figurines, and more!

$5-$10: Small-medium figurines, mugs, cups, bowls, 8” plates, switch plate and outlet covers, small frames, ring holders, 6” and 8” tiles, vases, candle holders, and much more!

$10 - $20: Banks, boxes, pencil holders, larger figurines, jumbo soup mugs, travel mugs, tea cup and saucers, frames, medium vases, sundae bowls, serving bowls, dinner plates, small platters, pet bowls (3 sizes), and tons more!

$20 - $40 and Up: Large platters, large serving pieces, large bowls, lidded canisters, wine cooler, large utensil holders, large vases, large gnomes, custom made pieces, and lots more!

Handbuilding with clay Studio fee: $12 per person, all ages, no time limit. Tools, limited instruction, materials, clean-up, drying space, and bisque firing provided (with clay purchase). $3 per pound of clay (1 pound minimum). Clay requires 2-4 weeks drying time before firing depending on thickness. Pieces may be picked up as-is or you may stay and paint a glaze onto it and have it glaze fired for the cost of a painting studio fee ($7 Adults, $5 Kids). Free studio fee coupons may not be used on hand-made pieces.

Open Wheel Throwing Studio fee: $12 per hour, no instruction, tools, 15 minute grace time, and drying space provided. $3 per pound of clay (1 pound minimum), bisque firing included with clay purchase. Must take an introductory wheel lesson or get prior approval to schedule open throw. Appointment needed, walk-ins are not accepted for wheel throwing. NOT available on Saturdays Special rates available for repeat potters with 10 - 25 pound clay purchase. ***See our “Classes” pages for information on pottery wheel throwing lessons.

Mosaic: SAME DAY take-home! We have a variety of wooden forms including boxes, frames, plaques, mirrors, flower pots, and more. Each blank piece is priced individually (starting at $10), choose from an endless variety of ceramic shards, glass beads, shells, stones, bits of broken sculpture, and metal to glue onto your piece. We have examples to look at! Take your mosaic home that day along with a grout kit (included in price) and follow the step-by-step grouting instructions to finish your masterpiece. Grouting is available in-studio starting at $8 (pick up 4-7 days later).

Same Day Take-home: Ceramic pieces available for same take take-home include: tiles, coasters, mugs, frames, flower pots, and more. The pieces are already clear glazed, you decorate the item with special bake-able pens (limited color selection). Take your creation with you when you are done and follow the instructions to bake in your oven. Colors are dishwasher resistant once baked. Same day pieces are priced the same as bisque pieces, Studio fee is $3 per piece. ***Not available at this time. Will be available soon!

Take Home Kits: Purchase a bisque piece, purchase colors (starting at $2), choose from step-by-step painting instructions (optional), take home and paint at your leisure. Return anytime to have clear glazed and fired for a $5 firing fee (small-medium pieces). We have brushes available for rent, refundable deposit required. Packages available for groups! Repairs: We can repair broken ceramics, wood, steel, glass, and resin sculptures. Call or bring in your broken piece for more information, $8 minimum, other charges may apply. $20 adhesive removal will apply to any piece with dried adhesive.
